The internet is quietly entering a new era where proving you are human might become more valuable than ever.

On February 27, The Wall Street Journal reported that Tools for Humanity TFH the company co founded by OpenAI co founder Sam Altman has partnered with global brands like Gap Visa and Tinder to accelerate adoption of its World ID verification system.

World ID is designed to solve one growing problem in the AI age how do we prove someone online is a real human and not a bot

At the center of this system is the Orb device. It scans a person’s face and iris then converts that data into an encrypted anonymous numerical code. According to TFH the biometric data itself is not stored by the company but remains on the user’s personal device adding a privacy focused layer to the process.

TFH Chief Commercial Officer Trevor Traina explained that the company’s business model is straightforward. Apps that use World ID to verify users as real humans will pay a fee each time verification happens. In simple terms identity becomes infrastructure and verification becomes a service.

As AI generated content floods social media dating apps gaming platforms and financial ecosystems the ability to distinguish humans from machines is rapidly becoming a digital necessity. With major consumer brands now involved World ID is positioning itself not just as a tech experiment but as a foundation for trust in the AI driven internet economy

The real question is not whether human verification will matter

It is who will control the gateway to digital identity in the years ahead.
