Bitcoin’s security is built around 256-bit private keys, meaning there are:

2²⁵⁶ possible key combinations.

This number is so enormous that it is often compared to the estimated number of atoms in the observable universe.

In practical terms, brute-forcing a Bitcoin private key is considered computationally infeasible with today’s technology.

This is one reason why the wallet widely believed to belong to Satoshi Nakamoto, holding approximately 1.096 million BTC (worth around $71 billion at current prices), has remained untouched for more than 15 years.

While it is often speculated that governments, researchers, and security organizations study advanced cryptographic attacks against Bitcoin, there is no public evidence that anyone has successfully broken-or is actively close to breaking-Satoshi’s wallet.

The broader lesson is simple:

Ownership of Bitcoin depends entirely on possession of the corresponding private key. Without it, the network provides no mechanism to recover or seize the funds.
