America is seeing a surge in new business formations—but here’s the catch: most of them aren’t creating jobs. 🧵
📈 Monthly business applications are now hovering around 500,000, near post-pandemic highs (2020–2021).
⚠️ But here’s the reality check:
Only ~30% of these are "high-propensity" applications (those likely to hire employees).
That’s a steep drop from ~60% just 20 years ago —it’s literally halved. 📉
And it gets worse:
Even among that 30%, only 1 in 3 actually ends up becoming a business with real employees. 🤯
🧠 What does that mean?
The vast majority of today’s “new businesses” are solo operations—many never provide full-time work, not even for their founders. They contribute very little to employment or broad economic growth.
So yes, America is experiencing a boom in jobless business creation 📉💼—a record number of startups, but not a record number of jobs.
